Do additional vitamin supplements aid the absorption of calcium supplements.
A lot of women take calcium supplements to help prevent osteoporosis. However, it turns out that some forms of calcium may increase the risk of kidney stones.
We all know that when we take calcium supplements, or any supplement for that matter, that some of the supplement won't be absorbed. However, the part that's flushed out of the system in urine has to pass through the kidneys first.
Researchers have found that calcium passing through the kidneys can lead to an increase in kidney stones. In fact, in one calcium study, using a common form of calcium that's readily available in stores, researchers found that the calcium didn't reduce fractures, but did increase kidney stones.
So is that a risk we face when taking calcium? Do we have to choose between kidney stones, or heart attacks, or getting osteoporosis? Actually, there are safer calcium supplements out there, that are absorbed at a greater rate. And, there are key ingredients that when combined with calcium can help the body better absorb it for instance magnesium supplements.
